Product Description Taking advantage of a native RAID controller that preserves computer resources, this compact 2-disk device comes with Hi-Speed USB and faster eSATA 3Gbits connectivity. Simply select your RAID level with the switch on the back. FAST mode supports speed and capacity-demanding applications, such as uncompressed SD video editing. Ideal for saving important digital libraries, SAFE mode mirrors data so if one disk fails, data remains accessible on the second one. Data redundancy can even be immediately rebuilt with a hot-swappable spare disk. For higher flexibility, the SAFE33/50 modes create two partitions: BIG for regular data and SAFE for data security. The heat sink metal design naturally draws heat away from the hard disk's internal components to help keep it cool and improve reliability. It can be stacked or rack mounted.

| Customer Reviews:
Very high quality product! Works perfectly! December 26, 2008 I bought this drive after trying a less expensive 2TB 2-disk drive. The other, by Cavalry, was a complete disaster. To get it to function required first installing some cheap driver software on my computer that completely destabilized my Windows Vista installation. After many frustrating hours, I uninstalled the crappy drivers, disassembled the case and cannibalized the individual discs so I could use them separately as internal drives for a different computer. However, I still needed a large capacity external drive, so I ordered the LaCie. This unit has built-in electronics which allows for selecting different disc modes (several different RAID modes, as well as BIG and JBOD modes) by use of a switch on the back. Worked perfectly right out of the box, and since there was NO driver software to install, there was no possibility of damaging my OS. I've had it for about 6 months now without a single problem. Plus the case is very well designed and built, and the individual discs are swappable. This is a drive I should have bought in the first place. It cost more than that p-o-s Cavalry drive, but in this case, you get what you pay for.
2 bad drives in a row, gave up and requested refund June 27, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
The first unit arrived with a loose drive lock, it would not engage securely. Amazon sent replacement, which was sealed but not packed correctly, with a rumpled manual and used cords. Called LaCie and asked about the serial number, they admitted it was a customer return that had been sent out for sale as a "new" device! The second unit would not format for Safe 100 and overheated, fan would not come on. Tech support agreed it was faulty, but the only exchange terms LaCie offered would have me waiting until after July 4 for a replacement, and no pick up service. I say No Way - enough is enough. I would not trust another LaCie drive after this experience.
